My Beginnings Into Jpop

I discovered Jpop in about summer 2007 through High School Musical. Not the place you'd expect someone to find it.

High School Musical 2 was showcasing different versions of their songs on Family. When the Japanese version of "You Are the Music In Me" by Nami Tamaki came on, I instantly fell in love. It sounded like just the right music for me. I liked upbeat songs. ( I really liked her hair too!)

I later began looking for the lyrics to the song so I could sing along. I eventually learned the lyrics by heart. My sister was on the computer one day, looking for other songs by Nami Tamaki. She found "Heroine" and I instantly was sucked into the world of Jpop.

You Are the Music In Me (Japanese) - Nami Tamaki

Heroine-Nami Tamaki

Today, almost all of my songs on my iPod are either Japanese or Korean. I prefer Japanese over Korean, although I know a lot of people who prefer vice versa. I have three American songs left on my Ipod that have yet to be deleted, and haven't been fully listened to since then. I've discovered a huge amount of Jpop artists since then, like Ayumi Hamasaki, Kana Nishino, Kanon Wakeshima, and a lot of others. A few of my favourite songs are:

Ai no Imi wo Oshiete - W (Double You)

This is one of my favourite songs from W (Double You).

Best Friend - Kana Nishino

Another beautiful song from Kana Nishino. The lyrics are really strong too.

I've gotten so addicted to Jpop that I don't even listen to American music anymore, which can be both a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing that comes out of it is that I can learn about Japanese culture. The bad thing? There are two things: 1. I don't know what some people are talking about anymore. 2. I have an assignment for English, where we're supposed to pick songs for scenes we are assigned to do. I don't think we're allowed to do any other songs but English, so you can say... I'm screwed. For the time being. I just hope I can find an American song that fits Romeo and Juliet Act 4 Scene 1 in time! It's gonna be a lot of work. I just know it.

Kana Nishino and WISE collaborate-again!

It's been a while since they've last had a song together - Tokutemo and Aenakutemo. (Tokutemo being Kana's version, and Aenakutemo being WISE's version. They're two versions of the same song).

Once again, they've collaborated to bring forth yet another beautiful song-By Your Side. I've waited for this song forever, ever since I found out they were collaborating on Jpop Asia.

For those who've known Kana as long as I have, this is the first video I've ever seen her in jeans. Yes, jeans, instead of her usual skirts and dresses. Very shocking.

Yet another masterpiece by them!

Strapya Kana Nishino x Gemcerey Princess Charm

The photo was taken from and the charm can be ordered here.

It's been a while since this came out, but I want to share it anyway.

I never thought Kana Nishino would actually have products out.

If you don't know who she is, she's a very famous singer in Japan, and supposedly is popular among the  Gyaru. Her audience not only consists of gyaru, but also the older generation.

She's one of my most favourite Jpop singers ever. In my list, Ayumi Hamasaki was always number one. Lately, Ayumi Hamasaki has changed the styles of her songs. These are styles that don't appeal to me very much. Meanwhile, Kana Nishino has been releasing songs that, on the first listening, have moved me. Not only have her songs grabbed my attention, but her voice, in my opinion, and the opinion of many other friends of mine, is perfect. I think it sounds cute. Not anime cute, but cute just to the point that it sounds in a way, mature. It's too hard for me to describe.

Here's one of her recent videos, Kimitte:

She has so many good songs out right now that I can't think of a favourite! I've loved all her songs since Tokutemo with Mr. Wise. Well, I discovered her when that song first came out, and since then, I've been watching out for any songs that she puts out. I didn't really like her songs before Tokutemo, but she's really changed since then.

She has really good potential, and I think she's really brought it out. If I could buy her songs right now, I would, but those things aren't too easily accessible where I live. I'm going to have to wait for Anime North 2011. They sold Ayumi Hamasaki and Nami Tamaki CDs there, so they should be selling some Kana Nishino ones this year.

If I can find a Kana Nishino CD or her cell phone charm,  at the "nearby" (closest, around 45 minutes away. T^T) asian mall, I'll post pictures up! I just hope I can find it.
